The Resale Market and Vintage Coach: Where Value Lingers

The RealReal now highlights pre-loved Coach as a category of its own in its once-a-year resale reports. What we saw in listings, platform publications and Coach’s in-house resale schemes is recorded here, with shopper interest and price kept clearly apart. Treat it as an observation of the market, not investment advice: nothing here suggests that any coach bag will go up in value. Asking prices show what sellers aim to get rather than what buyers actually pay, and the bulk of the prices we recorded were asking prices. How to Interpret Resale Figures

Confusing the three quite distinct kinds of resale data about Coach tends to produce weak conclusions. The first is demand data put out by a platform, which records what shoppers hunt for on that one site. The second kind is asking prices on resale marketplaces such as eBay, Poshmark, Etsy and Depop, where each seller chooses a figure. In Coach’s own first-party resale, the third kind, the brand puts prices on bags that it has restored or sourced from its archive. Asking prices, however, spread widely, samples are small and sold-price data is fragmented across platforms.
